Shulmai conservancy is a community own community that is in Mukogodo Location, Laikipia North Subcounty. We boarder Mukogodo forest to the east, Naibunga upper to the west and Isiolo county to the north. The conservancy was established in 2021 and registered in 2023. With a total acreage of 8000 hactares, the conservancy has set aside 6000ha for conservation while the rest is for settlement of its 1211 community members and grazing purposes.

The conservancy is occupied by indigenous communities of the maasai and Yaaku. The Yaaku is an indigenous cushitic hunter-gatherer community that got assimilated to maasai in early 19s.

The conservancy aims to integrate community development to biodiverty conservation as they strive to sustainably use the natural resources available.
